UN'S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 12 & 14
BE THE DIFFERENCE
Cleaning and protecting the oceans
OWP was approved to participate in the UN’s SDG program (Sustainable Development Goals)
We are proud that the United Nations acknowledged the huge positive impact that plastic collections have on ocean health and thereby directly support Sustainable Development Goals 12 & 14, two of the 17 goals that needs to be achieved before 2030 to save our planet.
OWP reduces the total amount of plastic in the world (as opposed to new plastic, such as virgin or bioplastics), while also cleaning up our oceans and rivers by removing plastic. With these cleanups, we save the lives of millions of marine animals that are threatened by plastic waste.
The majority of the plastic (90%) polluting our oceans comes from just 10 river systems. We want to prevent plastic from being carried into the oceans, which is why we also collect plastic from rivers.
UN SDG no. 12 & 14
The UN Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
What is the goal?
To conserve and sustainably use the world’s ocean, seas and marine resources.
Oceans are our planet’s life support and regulate the global climate system. They are the world’s largest ecosystem, home to nearly a million known species and containing vast untapped potential for scientific discovery.
What is the goal?
To ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
More people globally are expected to join the middle class over the next two decades. This will increase demand for already constrained natural resources. If we don’t act to change our consumption and production patterns, we will cause irreversible damage to our environment.
